Theophile Steinlen
Original lithographic poster printed in colors, printed by Charles Verneau, Paris, France 1894. Condition: Fine (B+) restored folds, fresh colors, full margins, backed on linen.
Sheet size: 55 H. X 38.75 W.
This original stone lithographic poster is perhaps Steinlen's most successful and best-known image. The poster advertises pure sterilized milk from the dairy of the Quillot Brothers in the village of Montigny sur Vingeanne. Steinlen's daughter Colette wears a bright red dress, sipping her morning milk which she shares with the family cats making sure that it is not too hot.

The cats depicted in many of Steinlen's drawings and posters were very important members of the household. This was Steinlen's first poster for the lithographer Charles Verneau, who later became his principle printer. Simple domesticity expressed with warm use of color works to make this poster a Belle Epoque masterpiece.

This is the large version of the poster, measuring a full 55 inches tall, linen backed and in near fine (B+) condition.
