Original lithographic poster printed in colors, printed by Affiches D'Interieur/ E: Ladam, Paris, France 1895. Condition: Fine (B+) a few minor tears mostly in margins; fresh colors, backed on linen and framed.
Sheet size: 24 H. X 16 W. Frame size: 34 H. X 25.25 W.
This is Rene Hermann-Paul's humorous poster for the 1895 Salon des Cent. Printed in France, this original stone lithograph features a flamboyant caricature of a bohemian artist that many believe to be Hermann-Paul himself. The poster successfully promotes the salon which was committed to the free expression of young artists and, at the same time pokes fun at their bohemian ways.

The composition and inventive use of color demonstrates Hermann-Paul's ability to immediately attract the eye and his brilliant mastery of satire. The hand lettering adds to the overall design. Though large in impact, by antique poster standards, it is small in size measuring 24 inches tall by 16 inches wide making it an easy fit in most homes.

Difficult to find, this is an excellent example of Paul-Hermann's work, probably his best poster and certainly one of the finest posters done for the Salon des Cent.
