This humorous poster is an excellent example of Armando Testa's work. Since 1954, the fairy-tale, historical world of "King Carpano" represented Punt e Mes to the public. Punt e Mes is a vermouth characterized as "one point of sweetness and a half point of bitterness"*. I'm told it makes a mean Americano and is great in a Manhattan or Negroni.
Antonio Carpano invented this classic Italian dry vermouth in 1786. The image suggests both the longevity of the company and the nobility of the product. A great mid-century design.
