F. Lupach
Original color lithographic poster, Russia 1932. Condition: Fine (B+) , backed on Japon paper.
Sheet size: 24.75 H. X 33.5 W.
This original Constructivist poster designed by the Russian artist F. Lupach in 1932 announces the opening of the State Dramatic Theater in Pyatigorsk. Though little is known about Lupach, his use of strong, stylized typography and geometric layout confirm his place among the Avant Garde.

The theater's inaugural repertoire includes Griboyedov's classic "Woe from Wit" and Gogol's "The Government Inspector" as well as new, innovative productions of "Fear" by Afinogenov and "Street of Joy" by Zarkhi. The theater's offerings added to Pyatigorsk's already lively nightlife and restaurant scene. This popular Caucasus resort destination is best known for its natural mineral springs and health spas.

The unusual color palate, horizontal format and historical context combine to make this poster a wonderfully unique find.
