Original lithographic poster printed in colors, printed by A. Haase, Prague, Czechoslovakia 1905. Condition: Very Fine (A-) , backed on linen.
Sheet size: 35 H. X 24 W.
This original lithographic poster announces the one-woman show featuring the work of Lily Godl-Brandhuber, painter, print-maker and sculptor. The poster is a beautifully rendered Arts and Crafts style landscape scene with a lake. The poster was printed in 1905 by the Czech printer A. Haase for the gallery exhibition which opened in January, 1906 and continued through February.

The poster is exceedingly rare and is from the Hans Sachs Collection. This collection represented on the most important poster collections ever assembled and spanned the years from 1885-1938, unparalleled in terms of both its breadth and depth.

Sachs, a German dentist, began collecting as a young man. In 1905, he organized the first poster collecting society, Verein der Plakat Freunde (The Society for the Friends of the Poster). "Das Plakat" was launched in 1910 as the group's official publication with Sachs as its editor. Though there were a number of collector groups and publications in Europe, "Das Plakat" was unique in its discussions of aesthetic, cultural and legal issues in graphic design including essays on plagiarism and originality. "Das Plakat" is a tribute to Sach's collecting interests and a testament to his international influence on graphic design.
