Carlo Vega
Photo lithograph, Mexico 1951. Condition: Near Mint (A) , backed on linen.
Sheet size: 33.75 H. X 25.5 W.
This highly stylized art deco poster announces the second Carrera Panamericana race in Mexico. The Mexican government conceived of the race to feature the opening of the Mexican section of the Panamerican Highway. The race started in Tuxtla in the south and traveled north on the highway to Juarez on the border with the United States.

The first place team, driving a Ferrari, took just under 23 hours over six days to complete the grueling course. In the five years that the event was held, it gained a reputation for its difficulty and took its place alongside the Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Today, it remains a part of racing folklore.
