Bandol - Cote d'Azur
Lithograph in colors, printed by Art et Tourisme, Paris, France circa 1938. Condition: Near Mint (A) , backed on linen.
Sheet size: 39.25 H. X 24.5 W.
This is a very rare poster for the Cote d'Azur by the artist Champseix. The poster features a stunning image of sailboats docked on calm blue water with smartly dressed tourists strolling along the promenade - the coastline of the French Rivera in the distance.
The tourist destination of "Bandol" is a commune in the Var department in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region in southeastern France. This coastline was one of the first modern resort areas in Europe. It began as a winter health resort for the British upper class at the end of the 18th century. But with the arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century, it became the playground and vacation spot for the Russians and French and other aristocrats, such as Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, when he was Prince of Wales.
