Jo Mora (1876-1947)
Original lithographic poster printed in colors, printed by Yosemite Park and Curry Company, , United States 1949. Condition: Fine (B+) fresh colors, light folds, backed on linen.
Sheet size: 19.25 H. X 15.75 W.
In 1931 Mora designed his original map of Yosemite and dedicated it to the "esteemed memory of my friend...Stephen T. Mather" director of the National Park Service, "whose untiring efforts...have been so fruitful in making Yosemite a vacation mecca for the people of...future generations." It was published in a large size and printed in black and white. In 1941, Mora colored his map and it was again printed, this time in a smaller size. The second printing was published by the Yosemite Park and Curry Company and included revisions to reflect current park locations and activities. The popular map went through yet another revision and printing in 1949. In both instances, the revisions were done by another hand and have been carefully documented in Gilmore's catalogue of Jo Mora Cartes-Maps.

Mora's playful map was reproduced in 1996 and is still sold today through the Yosemite Conservancy, continuing to delight and add to our reverence of Yosemite.

This is the 1949 printing of the Yosemite map.
