Original lithographic poster printed in colors, printed by Ve Monnom, Bruxelles, Belgium 1896. Condition: Fine (B+) minor losses and discoloration at edges, backed on linen.
Sheet size: 38.75 H. X 27.25 W.
Both rare and historically important, this original poster is an excellent example of the important avant-garde painter Theo vanRysselberghe's graphic work and is a significant piece of Belgium Art Nouveau.

VanRysselberghe designed this sophisticated poster for the artist group La Libre Esthetique's third exhibition in 1896 in which he was a founding member. This poster clearly demonstrates both the group's aesthetic and commitment to its ideals. Through these shows, which continued until 1914, this important group of intellectuals and artists introduced their Belgium audience to an international array of illustrated posters and decorative art. They succeeded in redefining the meaning of art to include all objects of everyday life and in elevating the status of the poster as a true art form.
